The Minister of Information and National Orientation Alhaji Mohammed Idris has emphasised the need for synergy between some Non-Governmental Organizations and Government Agencies in Nigeria for effective service-delivery to the people.
He was speaking yesterday in his office while receiving the National Coordinator of the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi who paid him a Courtesy Call together with some members of the Group.
According to the Minister, some objectives of the Agencies tally with that of Federal Government; therefore, partnership with them becomes a necessity to achieve common goals.
He commended the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria for its advocacy in the areas of fighting corruption, maintenance of peace and stability, interfaith dialogue as well as promotion of religious tolerance.
The Minister explained the Federal Government readiness to work together with NGO like the Muslim Media Watch Group with a view of enhancing the quality of public media practice for effective performance.
Earlier in his Address to the Minister during the visit, the National Coordinator of the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim had appealed to the Minister and the National Assembly to appropriate sufficient funds in the incoming 2025 Budget for the running of National Orientation Agency (NOA) and all the Federal Government Media Organizations so as to perform efficiently and effectively.
Alh. Abdullahi Ibrahim who is a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for giving National Orientation a new redefined focus under a new leadership that would make National Orientation Agency work better; pointing out that appropriation and release of sufficient funds were crucial to making the Agency and Federal Media Organizations to perform better.
He stressed the need for aggressive and effective national re-orientation of Nigerian Citizens on value-system, pointing out that Nigeria’s current political and socio-economic problems stemmed from loss of our core values due to lack of legal frameworks to punish infractions; adding that it is only a disciplined Society that could enforce discipline on its people.
The National Coordinator was accompanied to the Minister during the visit by a number of members of the Group including a Veteran Broadcaster & Network News Caster – Alhaji Ayinde Soaga, the South-East Coordinator of the Muslim Media Watch Group Alh. Mohammed Kabir Ojiegbulam, a Legal Practitioner – Barr. Shehu Mohammed, Alh. Yusuf Adebowale and Alh. Mubashir Soaga both of NTA, Sister Aisha Chidinnma Ibe and Sheikh Mohammed Abdullahi Azare among others.
