The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG) came into being in Year 2006 and the first conference was held in 2016, following noticeable gap in Da’wah activities in Nigeria. As powerful as Mass Media in the world today, there appears to be lack of adequate knowledge, understanding and perception of things by many Muslims and Islamic Organizations, as the onslaught agaianst Islam and the Muslims in the Media was becoming unbearable before the association was formed.
With more than 20 Newspapers and several Magazines published in Nigeria today, and over 250 Radio Stations across the Country, we have been caught in the web of absolute neglect, discremination and subjugation; to the extent that supposedly religious and educated Muslims tend to condemn Muslims ignorantly because of unsubstantiated and unverified reports carried by some biased Media Organizations, aimed at blackmailing the Muslims and Islam.
It is against this backdrop that Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG) came to being here in Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital; following untold hardship artificially created for Muslims and Muslim Organizations by non-Muslims practitioners and some ignorant Muslims.
Membership were drawn from Journalists, Mass Communicators, Academics of other disciplines from our various Higher Institutions, Islamic Scholars, Public Administrators, Medical Experts, Legal Practitioners and Professionals in various fields.
