The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria, has called on all Nigerians irrespective of their locations presently to support the Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In its Sallah Message to mark the end of this year’s holy month of Ramadan, the Group stated that the current economic hardship worsened by petrol subsidy withdrawal was precipitated by bad leadership of the past, insincerity and corruption, warning that – steps being taken by Tinubu Administration were aimed at solving the problems created before now, stating further that with measure being put in place, there is hope that prices of fuel will soon come down which would eventually force down the escalating prices of goods and services.
In the Sallah Press Statement signed the National Coordinator of the Group Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim, the Group said the strength being gained by the Naira against dollars is as a result of economic measures being put in place by the Federal Government to improve the Nation’s Economy, which calls for the support of all and sundry.
Turning to the Federal Government and State Governments, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria described electricity as the bedrock of all economic development; and called on the Federal and State Governments to take practical and urgent steps to stabilise power in the Country for socio-economic development.
The Group also called for political reform that would make good governance a reality; pointing out that the current Presidential System of democracy favour the political office holders instead of the masses.
The Media Group said no matter the economic measures and policies fashioned under the current dispensation cannot reflect positively in lives of the people as there are loopholes that gives room for too much corruption that impedes welfare of the people and provision of social infrastructures.
The Group therefore called on patriotic Nigerian Leaders young and old, Civil Society Groups, Religious Leaders and well-meaning individuals, to convince the present Administration to initiate pragmatic steps that would lead the Country to a new political order that would change our Political System from Presidential to Parliamentary System.
MMWG noted with serious concern that the Presidential System has been destroyed by corruptive tendencies, injustice and lack of effective laws to fight economic, social and political crimes.
The Group blamed the deteriorating economic conditions of the Country to the System of governance, calling for total review of the Amended 1999 Nigerian Constitution to accommodate the new Parliamentary System to be adopted.
The Group commended the Former Governor of Osun State Chief Abdulkarim Bisi Akande who was the Pioneer Chairman of APC for advocating same new political order for better governance in Nigeria, stating further that ‘time is up for us to take those steps for Nigeria’s political and economic survival’.
The Group concluded its Sallah Message by appealing to the political class to rule with fear of God and be ready to change the political system for the betterment of all Nigerians instead of pursuing personal interests to the detriment of the people.
