The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG) has described the trial of 500 suspected terrorists that began yesterday in Abuja as ‘a welcome development’.
In a Press Statement issued today jointly signed by the National Coordinator of the Group Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi and it’s National Secretary Dr. Nasir Balogun, the Group commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for fulfilling his promise of dealing severely according to the law with insurgents, terrorists, bandits and kidnappers who have been killing and terrorising innocent citizens of this Country.
The Group also praised the Nation’s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN for personally leading the prosecution of the criminals, noting that yesterday’s trial was ninth edition of the trials specifically targeted against the terrorists – by the Nation’s Attorney – stating that the current judicial process would definitely vindicate the Federal Government that it has never ‘rest on its oars’ in dealing summarily with the criminals sustaining and promoting insecurity in Nigeria.
While commending the Federal Government in its effort to stamp-out criminalities in Nigeria, the Group called on all Security and Intelligence Agencies in the Country to rise up to their challenges by stopping further attacks anywhere in the Country, as the criminals who are monitoring these trials from their ‘hide-outs’ could resume their hostilities against innocent citizens in the troubled zones thereby making ‘ nonsense of the Federal Government efforts ‘
Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria which serves as mouth-peace of Muslims in Nigeria on matters concerning efficient media practice and ethical professional conduct among other things, wondered why the dare-devil – criminals still use our Forests and Parks as habitat, calling on Military and Security Forces to intensify their proactive operations against the terrorists in the rural communities in Nigeria including the Kainji National Park in Niger State where reports continue to indicate that the criminals are still using as their colony from where they move out to perpetrate all sort of evils, calling on the Minister of Defence Lt. General Christopher Musa to promptly act on this matter without further delay.
MMWG finally called on all the State Governors in Northern Nigeria where terrorism is common to come-up with holistic strategies capable of putting an end to insurgency in the Country, warning that ‘throwing money’ to insecurity cannot curb it; rather social and educational programmes that transform the lives of the youth is the best approach to stop the menace of insecurity.
The Group admonished each State Governor to redouble their security strategies in combating crimes and commended the Governors of Borno and Zamfara States for acquiring sophisticated equipment and other logistics to tackle criminalities in their States…
The Group warned that political rhetorics without actions cannot solve the problems facing the Country, stating that as long as Northern States Government fails to combat begging of youth and underage children on the streets, so long will insecurity continue to steer us in the face (God Forbid)
