As the Nation celebrates this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria has charged the Federal and State Governments across the Country to secure lives and property of the citizens of the Country.
In its message on the occasion of the Festival, the Group condemned in strong terms the recent criminal attacks in Kuje Correctional Centre in the Federal Capital Territory and other worrisome loss of lives across some States in the Federation.
The message which was jointly signed by the National Coordinator of the Group Mal. Ibrahim Abdullahi and its National Missioner Sheikh Abu Sheriff, the Group stated that what the Federal Government should do among other steps is to increase quarterly the numerical strength of all the Nation’s Security Agencies.
The Group stated that consistent recruitment and training of qualified and dedicated young ones into the Security Agencies including the Intelligence Corps would bridge the gap created by shortage of personnel leading to breakdown of law and order. It also called for probe on what led to alledged withdrawal of some Security Personnel 24 hours from Kuje Correctional Centre before the terrorists struck recently, so as to know those that are culpable.
The Group condemned a situation whereby 10,000 policemen only were recruited into the Nigeria Police since 2020; adding that such number should henceforth be recruited and trained quarterly every year till 2027 to meet the Nation’s requirement in the area of manpower for Police; maintaining that manpower increase in the Military and Security including the Intelligence Corps was highly mandatory and imperative now!
At the States Levels, the Group called on the State Governors to holistically channel the monthly Security Vote to maintenance properly security in their States instead of diverting it for personal and political benefits only, in-order to engender sustainable crime-free Society.
On shortage of electricity and fuel supply in Nigeria, the Group condemned questionable funds being spent by Federal Government to subsidise fuel and electricity even after the electricity was handed-over to Private Concerns since 2014; adding that lack of electricity has been contributing seriously to the socio-economic and industrial problems facing the Nation.
MMWG said it supports the call for probe by FG the humongous funds going into fuel subsidy and called for probe to unravel the scam in the Sector adding that any anti-corruption fight that fails to cover fuel subsidy and epileptic power supply in Nigeria would be of no meaning to Nigerians.
On corruption proper, the Group calls on President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate and purnish the cartel and Chief Executives ‘selling jobs’, adding that long before Buhari came to power, appointments into Federal Public Service and some juicy Federal Companies & Parastatals are alledgedly and reportedly being sold. It’s time for his Administration to take the war on corruption to that angle now to stop the bad image being created for his Adminidtration, the Group maintained.
While calling on all patriotic Nigerians to pray for Allah’s guidance for our Leaders, MMWG also called on the FG to order immediate trial of all inmates of all our Custodian Centres including Boko-Haram members located anywhere in this Country for early justice to be delivered. The FG should probe the idea of criminals of all kinds in the Custodian Centres having access to mobile phones. This is terrible! What type of training is being given to the officials working in our Prisons and who are those monitoring them? The Group queried!
It also called for location of all Terrorists, Bandits and Kidnappers Camps all over the Country and get them eliminated. The criminals deserve heavy fire-piwers to be extinguished from the land before we could live peacefully, the Group said.
Finally, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria admonished the Security Chiefs and all their subordinates to note that ‘eyes are on them’ to do their jobs with high sense of professionalism and patriotism to rid the Nation of criminals soonest, while the FG must play it’s part in the areas of enough personnel, training and retraining, arms and ammunitions as well as logistics to make the job easy for them..
Wishing all citizens Happy Eid-el-Kabir Celebrations.
