Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has been commended for resuscitating the State Media Organizations that had gone moribund since assumption of duties in May 2019.
The commendation was made by the National Coordinator of the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria Alh. Abdullahi Ibrahim, during a Courtesy Call to the General Manager of Radio Kwara, Ilorin.
According to him, all State Media Organizations comprising of Radio Kwara, Kwara State Television Service and The Herald Newspapers were totally down on his assumption of office but he immediately resuscitated them by providing necessary equipment and other needed facilities to put them back on stream.
He then appealed to the Governor to sustain the tempo by providing new Studios, Vehicles and big Generating Sets that could withstand several hours of operation to the State Media Outfits.
The Group also admonished the State Governor not to limit his support and assistance to State-Owned Media Organizations; rather, he should provide same for NTA Ilorin and Harmony FM Idofian that are owned by the Federal Government; adding that since these Media Organizations are serving the State, Kwara State Government needs to come to their aid occasionally.
He commended Gov. Abdulrahman for rushing to NTA ILORIN premises during a fire outbreak that wreaked havoc into some offices at the Station sometimes ago; which demonstrated his genuine love and affection for all; adding that he should use the same spirit to assist them financially and materially.
Receiving the Muslim Media Watch Group Team at the Corporation, the Acting General Manager of Radio Kwara – Mal. Saliu Tajudeen Onikoko, thanked the Kwara State Government for coming to aids of Radio Kwara from time to time
He also thanked the Muslim Media Watch Group for Embarking on the Media Tour which he said would greatly enhance the productivity of the Media Organizations and serve as morale-booster to the workforce.
At NTA Ilorin, the Group called for raising the status of the Television Station by the NTA Headquarters pointing-out that as a First-Generation Station among NTA Stations in Nigeria established in Late 70s, the Station ought to have been greatly uplifted than it is presently.
During the visit, the General Manager of NTA Ilorin Mrs Oluwatoyin Atomode praised the effort of the Group especially in the mobilization of Islamic Organizations to buy slots on electronic media for the propagation of Islam and promotion of peace and stability in the Country.
At Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria – Harmony FM Idofian, the General Manager of the Station Alh. Abdulwahab Akosile, appealed to the State Government to procure new Generating Set for the Radio Station – adding that it is not possible for Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria to cater for the Radio Stations owned by it at the same time pointing out that in the States where they are located, assistance need to come from them.
He said currently, the Gemmating Set serving Harmony FM Station cannot withstand 24 hours of transmission due to its old age
The Group also visited Al-Barka FM Radio Ganma and Sobi FM Radio located at Sobi Hill in Ilorin among others.
During the visits, the National Coordinator of the Group Alh. Abdullahi Ibrahim stated that such visits are part of its core objectives in line with its Constitution in-order to assist the Media Organizations to fulfil their duties and responsibilities creditably.
