Ilorin – Kwara State Capital lost one its finest Legal Luminaries yesterday (Al-Ahd 25th Jumadal-Thani /Sunday 7th January, 2024).
The first Kwara-based Legal Giant ever to be made a Senior Advocate of Nigeria – SAN Alhaji Aliyu Alarape Salman, SAN breathed his last at his Residence located at Aderemi Adeleye Street, GRA, Ilorin.
The sad news broke early in the morning at about 10 o’clock through the social media and radio announcements.
Late Alh. Aliyu Alarape Salman, SAN was a towering figure in the Legal Profession in Nigeria, outstanding Community Leader having served two terms as National President of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) in the 80s and high political figure who served as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Kwara State between 1974 and 1976 and appointed as Chairman Kwara State Judicial Service Commission among many other positions he has held.
Born on November 9th, 1942. Late Alh. Aliyu Salman, SAN had his Elementary Education in Abeokuta and Ilorin. Post-Primary Education at Provincial Secondary School ( PSS) Ilorin before proceeding to Barewa College in Zaria. He graduated in Law at ABU, Zaria and was called to Bar in 1968.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria served in several capacities in Bar, Bench, Political, Religious and Community spheres.
Sympathisers started gathering since morning @ at Ilorin GRA yesterday (Al-Ahd/Sunday).
Mammoth crowd later formed-up for the islamic burial rites (Janazah) at about 4.00 pm.
Roll calls of participants in the burial rites include Former of President of Court of Appeal in Nigeria Rtd Hon. Justice Isa Ayo Salami. Also present was Rtd Justice of Ilorin High Court – Justice Banji Orilonise, the Chief Judge of Kwara State Hon. Justice Abiodun Adebara, Rtd Grand Kadi of Kwara State – Hon. Justice Idris Abdullahi Haroon and other Justices of Kwara State High Court of Justice.
Other dignitaries were Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin & Talba of Ilorin Prof. Shuaib Oba Abdul-Rahim, Former VC University of Ilorin & now Registrar/CEO Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin Professor Abdul-Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, Former Chief Medical Director University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Professor Sulaiman Alege Kuranga, VC of Ojaja University, Ilorin, Medical Expert Dr. Idris Omo Adua, Danmadami of Ilorin Alh Shehu Abdul-Gafar, OON and Chairman National Hijra Islamic Organization Prof. Badmas Lanre Yusuf.
Others include the Chairman of Geri FM Radio Barr. Mahmud Abdul-Rahim, the new President of IEDPU Rtd ACG Abdul-Mumin Abdul-Malik, the Immediate-Past IEDPU President Alh. Aliyu Otta Uthman, Former IEDPU Presidents Alh. L.A.K. Jimoh and Alh. Yunusa Gada, Rtd DIG Alh. Isa Ojibara, Alh. Isa Malete and Alh. Ayinla Folorunsho, Alh. Tunde Abdul-Karim- Forner Kwara State Accoubtant-General and many other dignitaries
The Janazah Prayers was which was led by the Imam Imale Sheikh Abdullahi Abdul-Hameed took place at 5.00 pm.
He was assisted by other Islamic Clerics and the remains of the departed was interred at his Residence.
The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria prayed for the departed Legal Luminary that Almighty Allah grants him Al-Janbatul-Firdaous and takes good care of members of his household…Amin.
