Ahead of the planned nationwide protest in the Country, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria has called on all citizens across the Nation to see patriotism as a core value that should be embraced irrespective of their locations in the Country.
According to the Group, if the planned protest is truly for the betterment of our people, planners and executors of the protest must exercise restraint so that decorum pervades throughout the exercise.
In a Press Statement issued today by the Group, it outlined some of the features of rational and sensible protests meant to bring Government to the right track as follows:
[i] Such protest must have known Leaders who are trustworthy and respected in the Society. Even if they are youths, they must be people of integrity known for peace and tranquility.
[Ii] Such protest must be well-organised and controlled as to have place to assemble, routes must be outlined and placed before the Security Agencies without any deviation during the course of protest.
[Iii] Such a protest must not last beyond 2 days; as prolonged protest would surely put serious economic and social burden on innocent people.
[iv] Above all, protests must be devoid of blockage of roads, burning of tyres, prevention of vehicles and human traffic as well as be for short period like 2 hours, as prolonged protest is capable of disrupting innocent people’s businesses and create tension.
The Media Group’s statement released today which was jointly signed by its National Coordinator Alh. Ibrahim Abdullahi and the Ogun State Coordinator of the Group Alh. Kamaldeen Akintunde, called for sensible approach to the national protest so as not to deviate from the norms stated above.
The Group warned undesirable elements, miscreants and political jobbers to stay-away from the proposed protest and called on Security Agents to be alert and professional in their duties and responsibility so as to avoid any ugly incident in any part of the Country during the peaceful protest.
The Group which is a Body of Muslim Media Practitioners and other Professionals, finally appealed to Federal and State Governments to henceforth take drastic steps to ameliorate the suffering of the people by tackling serious inflation, avoiding execution of projects that do not have immediate positive impact on the lives of the people as well as control the unbearable exchange rate of Naira to all foreign currencies.
