The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria has called on muslim preachers and activists not to mislead sponsors of islamic programmes on Radio and Television during the holy month of Ramadan.
In a Press Statement concerning this matter, the Group said it has observed that some people have been discouraging sponsors of the programme by advising sponsors that it is more rewarding to feed the less-priviledged these hard times than sponsoring programme on Radio or Television.
In statement just released today and signed by its National Coordinator Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim, the Group said while it is not opposed to purchase and distribution of food items to the suffering vulnerables in the Country, it is erroneous to admonish the people that money to be used for programmes sponsorship should be used for food distribution; adding that each islamic activity has it’s reward and that people should stop mixing them-up and rating one above the other.
The Group urged all sponsors of islamic programmes on Radio and Television to continue doing so and implored others to join them as abundant rewards await those propagating Islam through the Media as it is the closest medium to reach the people.
It admonished sponsors, however, to ensure that competent and qualified scholars are engaged in the islamic activity while sponsors must stand-clear of doing the act for the purpose of propaganda adding that it is sinful to do any islamic activity for ‘outward show’ known as Ar-Riyya’ which is condemned in Islam.
